CKB112 - Accessing M-Files Desktop


Knowledge Base Article: Accessing M-Files Desktop

When M-Files Desktop is installed and your vault connections are set up, you see all the vault connections on your M-Files drive in File Explorer.

Opening M-Files Desktop

To use M-Files, use one of the following methods:

  • Select the M-Files icon on your desktop
  • Use the Windows Start menu
  • Use the M-Files drive in File Explorer

Classic vs. New M-Files Desktop

There are two versions of M-Files Desktop that you can use:

  • The classic M-Files Desktop (this user guide)
  • The new M-Files Desktop (refer to the user guide for M-Files Web and the new M-Files Desktop)

To switch between the two versions, use the NEW toggle in the top area of the interface.

Logging In

To log in to a vault:

  • Double-select a vault on the M-Files drive to log in
  • To log in as a different user, open the context menu for the vault and select Log In as


NotesNote: If M-Files cannot use your Windows credentials for the login, the system asks you for your credentials when you open the vault.

Prerequisites

Before you can access your M-Files vault, your M-Files system administrator must have completed the following:

  • Set up the M-Files system
  • Set up the vault
  • Added a vault connection for you
